Ana-to-Me

The collection was inspired by the catacombs – burial caves in which human skeletons adorned from top to bottom with gold, jewels and luxurious clothes were entombed. For me the catacombs embodied the theme of memory, life, and death as a cohesive unit in which time had stood still.

Each set of clothes was designed with attention to a different part of the human skeleton. The clothes have an anemic and conserved look, and their frozen form conveys the sense of time. In the garments there is an emphasis on the stitching of the pattern parts, and a mixing of different textiles that give volume and breathe life into the clothes.

Materials: cotton, fortified satin, silk satin, foamed polymer, mesh, brocade, cheesecloth, gilt slide, piping tape, pearls.

Techniques: draping, sewing, hand sewing, unpicking, gluing, embroidery.
